"RENT IS 2 DAMN HIIIGH!" Wish we could have gotten a better picture!

Met up with Leslie and Becca for Sunday brunch at an adorable French bistro in the Lower East Side called Cafe Charbon (totally made Leslie and I nostalgic for Paris!). It was nice to catch up with each other on life. As we were finishing up, who do we see but the infamous Jimmy "RENTIS2DAMNHIGH" McMillan, in all of his handlebar-moustache glory, strolling down the block! We were flipping out, but no one else seemed to care (seriously?!) haha... we were dying. It was great.

It was a beautiful day so we walked around the LES for a bit, then went to see Never Let Me Go at the Sunshine. I was telling Leslie about the novel and she was very intrigued. I felt like the movie left out some important details, but I suppose I could see why they wanted to simplify it. That being said, I definitely liked the novel better.

Then I headed to The Archeron for the Thinkfast! CMJ showcase where my friends James and Matt's new band, Don't Give A Fuck, played their debut show (They were great!), along with Hour Of The Wolf (can't wait to see them again at Fest!), Outbreak, and The Menzingers. It was a really fun show and I got to see a bunch of friends!

Fest 9 is this weekend and I am soooo stoked!!!

At first, I was really deterred from picking up Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, just because of it's dumb title and artwork ("chick-lit" comes to mind), but this novel turned out to be a perfect example of "never judge a book by it's cover" - literally. I finished reading it on the train this morning and really loved it. Yes, it's a bit slow-paced, but that all just adds to the lucidity of the quiet, dreamlike horror. Emotions are subtle, yet you're aware of them the entire time. I don't want to give anything away, but it's an interesting perspective on sci-fi without being too nerdy. I want to go see the film now, mostly because Carey Mulligan (my #1 girlcrush) is in it, but also to see how this story gets interpreted. I kind of want to go see it alone, because it just feels like that's what you should do. I've never gone to the movies alone before, so we'll see what happens.

This was incredible (espeically on IMAX). Seriously. Christopher Nolan has really impressed me with some of his previous works (The Dark Night, Memento, etc.) but he really stepped it up with this one. The concept was interesting, and it really made me think about/question life. A lot of people have mentioned that they didn't "get it." I thought it was presented very well, you just had to think a little bit. I immediately ordered some books by Jorge Luis Borges because I read somewhere that that's where Nolan got a lot of inspiration from.

Love the movie. Love the novella even more.
